Koen, SARA only has local chapters which in our case is the NY chapter (NY area) and they have yearly award banquets. The National SARA Awards are linked to the annual meeting/congress and allow all firms to compete on a national level, so everybody can submit entries and they are being judged by a different committee, so sometimes we won't win an award for the local NY chapter and we win a national instead. It really depends on the selection committee.
NY local chapter is notorious for fierce competition, whether it's SARA or AIA, there are so many firms here. AIA has awards for local, state and national events and they are all being held separately as well. Winning an AIA national award is architects' royalty, since it's very competitive!
