Sea water
We are doing some thinking about a small project on the beach in a very hot climate, and are wondering if we could use the sea water to cool the concrete slabs (betonkern activering).

Combining those charts, you can see that about half the time the climate is very harsh, but the other half year is within the comfortable range.
They are right. The first field trip should be in November. |

Rijk, I once had a discussion with Arup for an extension of Estec in Noordwijk and one of the sustainability items was going to be a form of cooling with water from the North Sea. So yes I think this can be done but I would consult some expert on this. I would use it in a screed layer I think because then it will be much closer to the surface so it will be more direct.

At our monthly secret project dinner with Ulrich Knaack and Marcel Bilow from the TU in Delft, we discussed using the sea water, but they thought that we would have to go too deep to get cooler water.
They said we could just use ground water. And, if we would use micro tubes, we would not have to use pumps, but that the capillary action will move the water through the system. |
